About GothamCast
My name is Jason and I am the host of GothamCast. I am a relatively new transplant to Manhattan, but things change so fast here…who’s to say what is new in New York. I guess that is one reason they call it NEW York. This city is in a constant state of flux.
Speaking of quick changes, one day my wife, Melanie, and I were living in Salt Lake City, Utah, with no immediate plans of moving. Six weeks later, we were suddenly Gothamites. But that is a story told in the GothamCast. Really it is about par for the course for us, though. Five years ago, we got engaged and married in a six-week period as well.
My wife is a graduate student on her way to becoming the next Dr Phil… the reason for our rapid relocation to Manhattan. She is studying to become a marriage and family therapist. This is a 180 degree turnaround from her undergraduate studies in vocal performance and aspirations of being on Broadway.
In addition to NYC I have lived in some other very cool places like Alaska (where there are more caribou than people) and Paris, France (where they have more cheeses than there are days in a year).
I am an internet entrepreneur (read “geek”) as well as an independent musician (read “starving artist”). Between the two of us, my wife and I have been in over a dozen different bands and recorded over a half-dozen albums (many of them together) with styles ranging from jazz to folk to alternative rock. To top it off, I also dabble in photography and film as creative outlets with varying degrees of success.
My pursuits on the world wide web and my creative streak led me to podcasting and producing GothamCast.
Here is a short list of some of my favorite things:
- Urban living (especially Manhattan-style)
- Indie music
- Listening to podcasts and podcasting
- Writing, performing & recording music
- Photography
- Soaking in the sights and sounds of The City
- Culture/Art/History (all very diverse in NYC)
- Learning about and discovering new things
- Creating media for the web
- Talking with my wife
- Etc.
So, I threw all that in the hopper, mixed it with my passion for it all, and added a dash of people’s insatiabe intrigue for all things New York.
What emerged was GothamCast.
Here is what GothamCast WON’T give you:
- A thouroughbread Noo Yawkah with the accent and all (I moved here later in life along with over half of the rest of this city’s population), but I will give you the mixed view of a westerner living in the East.
- American Idols, Survivors, etc., etc. (although there is a certain “reality” schtick about this)
- Page Six Gossip (try www.Gawker.com for that)
Here is what GothamCast WILL give you:
- A vicarious Manhattan experience
- Sights and sounds to stimulate your senses
- Something to get you through the mind-numbing corporate cubicle rat race
- A slice of the podcasting media revolution
- A regular dose of the unparalleled vibe of the self-proclaimed capitol of the world
- 20 MBs closer to bragging that your 40 Gig iPod is full to the brim
- Great indie music coming out of the NYC area
- Ranting and raving about Manhattan mayhem
- An escape from the same old, corporate conglomerate, worn-out, Clearchannel controlled, pre-programmed, blah blah blah radio
There is no city in the world like New York and no other way to experience it quite like this. So….take New York City and stick it in your ear! This is the podcast that never sleeps.
